NGV HISTORY GUIDE
The NGV History Guidebook serves as an introduction to the rich history of this building, with further developments anticipated. It commences with the initial tender awarded to Roy Grounds in the 1960s and continues through to the early 2000s, when Mario Bellini undertook the interior redevelopment. The guidebook also highlights the Great Hall, which features the world's largest suspended stained-glass ceiling, created by Leonard French.
This design illustrates the materials used in the building, particularly the significant amount of bluestone sourced from quarries in Victoria. The various shades of blue in the design reflect the unique trace minerals present in the stone, resulting in the use of two distinct tones of blue.
